In Your Pocket

The first In Your Pocket guidebook was published in a newly independent Lithuania in 1992. In Your Pocket guidebooks were set up as small-format English-language print guides on what to do and how to do it, for people visiting obscure destinations in emerging economies for reasons such as searching their family histories, looking for new business opportunities, or simply to have a holiday with a difference. Written by enthusiasts, they soon attracted sufficient advertising revenue to be published several times a year, set up a website and to publish a series of free PDF format guides to the destinations they cover.

In Your Pocket is now a fully franchised international business. There are currently 40 In Your Pocket guides in 18 countries in both Eastern and Western Europe, producing a total of over one million guidebooks annually. Uniquely for a major travel publisher, all In Your Pocket content is also available for free on the internet, a website that receives over 10 million page views per year. With the help of Rentapocket, In Your Pocket aims to be a global city guide publisher by the end of this decade.

Rentapocket currently production-manages the larger In Your Pocket franchises in Eastern and Western Europe, and is the authorised editorial and production wing of the company. Franchisees include people publishing In Your Pocket guides as a main source of income, to entrepreneurs who use the guidebooks to market their cities and the businesses they run. In Your Pocket has also published several funded guidebooks in Lithuania and Albania in partnership with local authorities and NGOs who see the benefit of using In Your Pocket’s distribution channels to market their cities.
